Choosing your own doctor or surgery
The doctor or surgery of your choice will then be the first one you turn to when you need a doctor. This makes things more secure for you, and it gives you continuity in your contact with the health service.
The GPs are specialists in general medicine. This means that all GPs have a broad medical training and are qualified to deal with most symptoms of illness.
If you need more specialised care, your GP surgery will assist you in getting to the right place.
If you seldom need to go to a doctor, it may be sufficient just to select a surgery rather than a particular doctor.
What to do:
If you do not already have a regular doctor to go to
Next time you need to go to a doctor, you will be asked if you want to be put down for one particular doctor or surgery. If that is what you would like, you fill in the selection form that can be downloaded at the bottom of this page. You will find addresses in the menu on the left under the names of the respective surgeries.
If you already have your own doctor
The next time you come to the surgery, you will be asked if you still want to go on with the same doctor or if you want to choose a new one. If you do want to change, you fill in the form that can be downloaded at the bottom of this page.
If you have already registered with a private doctor
You will then automatically be registered with your private doctor in the future as well. If you want to change to a doctor at another surgery you must fill in the form that can be downloaded at the bottom of this page and send it to the surgery. You will find addresses in the menu on the left under the names of the respective surgeries.
If you have not yet made an active choice, you will be on the registration list for the surgery that is closest to your home. This applies until you yourself make a choice. It applies even if previously, because there was no room, you have not been able to get the doctor or surgery of your choice.
Points to note about your choice:
- Registration forms are available at every care centre and private GP surgery, and can also be downloaded from the County Council website. You send the form to the surgery of your choice .You will find addresses in the menu on the left under the respective surgeries.
- Your choice will be accepted, places permitting.
- Once you have made your choice, it will be the GP or the GP surgery that you have chosen which will be your first contact when you need a doctor. You will not at this time be able to turn to any other surgery.
- If you are not pleased with your choice, you may make a new choice. If less than twelve months has passed since you last made a choice, Blekinge County Council has no obligation to agree to your choice.
- If you move within the county, your choice will apply until you make a new one.
